Redevelopment of monumental complex into diversity of functions.
This monumental complex of buildings has a rich history. The first building of the complex was built in 1601 for military storage. After, it has been used as military museum for years, until the museum moved.
Because of the historical value and the public function within a residential area a lot of people feel connected to this building. Because of this we felt this building should at least partly have a public function and be giving back to the people.
The new plans consists of a mix of functions: hotel, restaurant, congress centre, museum and offices. A mix of both public and private functions. together with the neighbourhood we thought about the connectivity with the area and made us introduce bridges, a terrace, a dock and more.
During the concept development until start construction we used ArsenaalDelft temporary. It has been used for Villa Arsenaal, as exam location by TU Delft, as a starting location for a fundraising program: Swim to Fight Cancer, for a theater performance for the neighbourhood, rented out for congresses, meetings and weddings by Motus Beheer. This made citizens involved with the redevelopment, showed potential to partners and possible-future-uses.
